A beautiful McLaren GT

Early on in McLaren’s history, company founder and racing driver, Bruce McLaren set out to capitalise on the team’s success in the Can-Am series by building a racing car for the road. The McLaren M6 GT was Bruce’s pet project, and he developed the car in-house at his Colnbrook factory near London during 1968/9.

The M6 GT’s dry weight of 725 kilos testifies that it was a racing car for the road rather than a civilised supercar. McLaren’s modern interpretation of the classic GT – was revealed online on May 15. Superlight yet supremely comfortable, the McLaren GT is powered by a 620PS 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine, providing supercar performance. It accelerates from 0100km/h (0-60mph) in 3.2 seconds and on to 326km/h (203mph) and can carry up to 570 litres of luggage – enough for a grand tour for two people.
